Choose a useful learning target
Start with a sentence containing one important term, date, relationship, or process step. The remaining words should give enough context for one clear answer.
Avoid ambiguous blanks
Do not remove generic words when several alternatives could fit. Keep units, names, and surrounding context when they help learners identify the intended answer.
Create an answer key
Generate prompts from your notes or document, then confirm that every answer appears in or is directly supported by the source. Revise questions that depend on unstated assumptions.
Use questions for active recall
Mix fill-in-the-blank practice with multiple choice and short-answer questions. Revisit missed items after a delay instead of repeating the full set immediately.
